So generous is the credit card industry that it is offering NYPD recruits a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be immediately whisked into the wonderful world of debt and servitude.
The New York Daily News is reporting that new NYPD recruits are now being offered a $500-limit low-interest Visa credit card to help cover the roughly $4000 worth of equipment rookie officers are expected to buy.
In 2005, a state arbitration panel lowered recruits pay from about $36,000 a year to the $25,100 a year they currently earn. And since then, creditors from the Municipal Credit Union have been feasting on the souls of New York’s finest, and are now incorporating the help of Visa’s economic hit men. From the Daily News story:
In the past two years, the credit union has made more than $3 million in 36-month loans to empty-pocketed rookies, at 10.45% interest, according to Ralph Pagan, credit union chief marketing officer.
And this year, for the first time ever, it is offering the $500-limit low-interest credit card, Pagan said.
“We had recruits come back and ask if they could take a second loan,” Pagan said. “We heard enough comments [about recruits’ financial difficulties] that we decided to offer a credit card, too. It’s a new feature.”
The new feature is also known as enslaving and corrupting our city’s police officers.
