Last night’s episode seemed to support the theories that the final episodes of the Sopranos are going to be bloody and brutal. For now it seems pretty impossible that Tony Soprano will somehow gloriously ride off into the sunset at the show’s finale.
After last week’s fist fight with Bobby Bacala, Tony, thanks to a little goading by Carmela, feels betrayed by Christopher after seeing the screening of his new movie, Cleaver. There has definitely been a wedge driven in there and if Tony truly believes it was some sort of “revenge fantasy” by Christopher things could get a lot worse between them. So the two people in the family that are actually related to Tony by literal family are both on Tony’s shit list.
Johnny Sack has Stage 4 terminal cancer and the war for New York is on, with one of the front runners already getting clipped.
Also, the story about how Phil Leotardo got his name was priceless. The family name used to be Leonardo until they came over to Ellis Island and it got changed to Leotardo, “something that ballet dancers wear”. Also, Phil doesn’t seem to be able to let his brother Billy’s death go, hence the creepy scene with the kids blowing out the candles on the would-be birthday cake for Billy.
We think these last episodes are going to pretty much center on showing the reality of what it’s like at the end of life in the mob. Like Tony said in the first episode, it only ends one of two ways for guys like him.
