The battle of the tabloid wars have been heating up lately as the NYP has begun making substantial gains with its circulation numbers against the Daily News.
The News has long maintained that the Post only stays afloat because it dropped price to 25 cents when its circulation numbers were in the toilet. Well, it looks like the Post’s plan may have worked. Starting April 30 the Post will double its price to match the 50 cents a paper the Daily News charges.
The price raise coincides with the release of the Audit Bureau of Circulations numbers from the last six months and it is expected to show the Post making significant circulation gains. Right now the Post loses about $70 million dollars a year so it remains to be seen if doubling the cost will have a significant negative impact on the circulation it’s garnered while only costing a quarter.

Want a neat little picture by your comments? Get one here.i know i’m ignorant on all things economic and financial, but how the hell does a newspaper lose $70 million a year and still stay in business?

i’m pretty sure on losses like that you can write them off. i don’t know maybe i’m just talking out of my ass.
I think Rupert Murdoch just likes owning a daily rag in NYC is the only reason he keeps it.
