The victim of Peter Braunstein’s 2005 Halloween sex attack testified in court yesterday about her 13-hour ordeal at the hands of the former fashion writer.
On Halloween night in 2005 Braunstein dressed up like a fireman and started a small fire in the hallway of the victim so she would see the smoke. As she put the finishing touches on her costume to get ready to go out, Braunstein began banging on her door saying there was a fire and demanding to be let in.
Upon looking through the peephole she saw a man dressed as a fireman and smoke and at the time felt she had no reason not to open the door and let him in.
As she got her keys and searched for her cat, preparing to flee, she felt a gun at her head, the woman testified in State Supreme Court.
“Get down on the ground,” the man in the firefighter’s gear told her.
When she did, he tied her wrists with plastic handcuffs and put a chloroform-soaked rag over her mouth. “I immediately passed out,” she said.
So began a 13-hour nightmare, the woman said, in which she was sexually tormented by Mr. Braunstein, 43.
During the next 13 hours Braunstein assaulted and ranted to the woman as he dressed her in “bronze heels” that he had found in her closet. The victim testified that friends continually stopped by and called but she was afraid of putting them in harm’s way so she remained quiet. Braunstein even commented on her visits at one point she recalled, “He referenced, ‘You’re worse than Paris Hilton,’ “.
During the testimony Braunstein sat quietly looking dazed and just as crazy as usual.
