Guns don’t kill people, knives do. After ceding the necessity of the second amendment and the right to bear arms in case of a British invasion and or a surprise attack by Indians, the New York Times focuses on the next great threat to society, knives, with their gritty exposé, “Knives on the Streets”.

Then again, what is the news if not a great big fat distraction. By the way, did you guys hear that Paris was totally sentenced to 45 days in jail?!

Who needs facts to bring us down?

* Every day, more than 80 Americans die from gun violence. (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence)
* The rate of firearm deaths among kids under age 15 is almost 12 times higher in the United States than in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
* American kids are 16 times more likely to be murdered with a gun, 11 times more likely to commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die from a firearm accident than children in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control) -NEA

A similar search for “knife violence statistics” returned only results from the UK where guns are illegal.

Of course gun control wouldn’t stop all crime but it would make it a lot fucking harder to walk into a school and stab 32 people to death.

I was just about to give in to all the peacenik pussies and get rid of my gun, but now that I know I have to defend myself against knife wielding maniacs, I think I’ll just hang on to it. Thanks New York Times!
