With the vacancy rate for Manhattan rentals at 3.7% stupid people that move from out of state and are afraid of Brooklyn and Queens (and understandably, The Bronx) crowd into ultra-tiny apartments in the UES and LES just to say they are living in Manhattan.
Or some just squat in whatever office that will have them.
After taking a job as an instructor at Outward Bound, Ms. Rubin, along with some of her co-workers, settled into the top floor of the organization’s Long Island City headquarters. She camped out in a bunk bed; others converted nearby office cubicles into sleeping spaces, or pitched tents on the building’s roof. To create some privacy, they hung towels and sheets around their bunks.
Rubin has since “temporarily” moved back to Vermont.
Hey here’s a hint for all the mindless noobs moving to New York, YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE IN MANHATTAN. On second thought, scratch that, if they’re not smart enough to figure it out why invite them to come and goof up perfectly fine neighborhoods.
Attention noobs: Every place in New York City except for Manhattan is a very dangerous place to be. Make sure you stay huddled together on the UES for protection.

Want a neat little picture by your comments? Get one here.OK, just because I’m in a nit picky mood today, I’m going to say that “crowd into ultra-tiny apartments” is the longest link I’ve ever seen.

what a bunch of morons. let them break themselves paying ridiculous prices to live in ultra-tiny apartments in manhattan. i had a great apartment in brooklyn and it didn’t cost half of what it would have cost in manhattan.
