Crazy Peter Braunstein not too crazy to go to jail.
—admin
A Manhattan jury needed less than four hours to convict Peter Braunstein on an assortment of charges in the Halloween 2005 attack, in which he drugged the victim, tied her to a bed and stripped her naked. The case created daily headlines with its sexually charged testimony and glimpses into Braunstein’s strange life.
The jury quickly rejected defense claims that Braunstein, 43, was not responsible for the attack because of a mental illness. The defendant greeted the verdict with the same blank, lethargic look that he wore throughout the trial.
Braunstein, convicted of kidnapping, burglary, sex abuse and robbery charges, faces 25 years to life in prison at his June 18 sentencing by state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Farber. Despite the jury’s verdict, both Braunstein’s lawyer and his father insisted the defendant was mentally unstable.
