If anyone out there actually still listens to radio you might be interested to know that as of 5 p.m. today K-Rock will again be K-Rock and go back to an all music format. All of this can be directly linked to Howard Stern leaving K-Rock for Sirius, after that things started sucking pretty quickly.
K-Rock changed its programming and launched a “FreeFM” campaign based around Stern’s replacement David Lee Roth. Possibly one of the worst moves in radio history.
It didn’t take long for Roth to start sucking so bad that WFNY actually fired him in the middle of the week. Within a month of Roth taking over the morning drive slot WFNY’s morning share among its target audience of 18- to 34-year-olds fell from 13.8% to 1.3%.
It hasn’t faired much better since then and with the recent re-firing of Opie and Anthony WFNY decided to ditch the FreeFM format and go back to playing good old-fashioned rock and roll.
K-Rock currently has a countdown to 5 p.m. on it’s website. Since I don’t have access to a radio right now I can’t tell you what they’re playing, if anything. They should be broadcasting some cool number station broadcasts over and over to help build the anticipation.
