marijuana-mar-com-1.jpgI guess Jesus would prefer we all die a miserable death rather than ever smoke a joint. I can’t think of any other reason why weed would still be illegal ESPECIALLY for medical purposes, in 2007 except for the overreaching authority of the vocal minority that feel it’s necessary to impose their fucked up, hypocritic morals on the rest of us.

A medical marijuana measure passed the Assembly last night but has been caught up in partisan nonsense in the Senate. And Senate Majority leader Joe Bruno has already said that his house would introduce their own version of the bill.

“The Assembly version doesn’t work, in my estimation, with all due respect,” said Bruno (R-Rensselaer).

It’s mind blowing that we’re even having this conversation considering the fact that if it wasn’t for corporate whoredom, fear tactics and bigotry perpetuated by William Randolph Hearst, a paper magnate, marijuana probably wouldn’t even be illegal for recreational use.

Hearst sympathized with Harry J. Anslinger in his war against marijuana. His paper empire (he owned hundreds of acres of timber forests) was threatened by hemp, which could be regrown yearly. He published many of the stories that Anslinger fabricated, aiding the anti-marijuana movement that eventually led to its prohibition in the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.

By the way, that’s the same Harry J. Anslinger, the first Commissioner of the Treasury Department’s Federal Bureau of Narcotics, who is quoted as saying during his crusade against marijuana, “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”

Guess how many medical professionals testified in front of congress about the dangers of marijuana and how it should be made illegal? Zero. They weren’t even asked to testify because they would have testified that there was absolutely no medical reason to make marijuana illegal.

Anslinger however was allowed to testify. His testimony basically consisted of reciting fake Hearst news stories and cool off the cuff remarks like “There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage.” Members of congress reportedly gasped when he informed them that “marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others.” He concluded that “marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”

And there you have it. In 1937 the Marijuana Tax Act was passed. Hearst was free to continue clearcutting forests and building his paper empire based on lies he published in his own newspapers. To this day we’re still clearcutting forests rather than relying on annual hemp harvests and having this stupid fucking, mind blowing argument about whether or not to allow dying cancer patients to have access to the evil weed. Fuck!
