The WWE is not only reeling from the news of this Chris Benoit tragedy but it’s also trying to distance itself from the tribute it aired Monday night in “honor” of Benoit.
The tribute aired before the WWE knew all the facts about the situation and basically praised Benoit for being such a great family man. Apparently the WWE and the USA Network have received complaints about their portrayal of a man who killed his family and then himself.
The complaints seemed to have worked since all mentions of the tribute as well as any Benoit merchandise have been pulled from the WWE’s website.
They did however publish the text messages that Benoit sent in the early morning hours on Sunday before killing himself.
Text Message 1 to two co-workers (sent 6/24 at 3:53 a.m.) - Chris Benoit’s cell phone
“My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane, Fayetteville Georgia. 30215”
