China does not fuck around when it comes to protecting its “made in China” brand. They wasted no time executing Zheng Xiaoyu, 62, the former drug and food safety chief who was convicted of taking bribes from eight different companies.
“Zheng Xiaoyu’s grave irresponsibility in pharmaceutical safety inspection and failure to conscientiously carry out his duties seriously damaged the interests of the state and people,” Xinhua cited the high court as stating.
“The social impact has been utterly malign,” the court said, adding that Zheng’s confession and handing over of bribes were not enough to justify mercy.
Imagine if we did that in the US? Our political landscape would be a barren wasteland.
Besides, here in the good ol’ US of A it’s not called “taking bribes” it’s called “lobbying” or “being friends with Dick Cheney“.
