yankess-stadium_0101.jpgA fan who had his neck broken at Yankee Stadium when another fan fell on him is being flown home to Kirkland, WA today in a private plane chartered by the Yankees.

If you were at the Stadium on July 8th when the Yankees beat the Angels and happened to see a man drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, acting vulgar and talking about hot sex before tumbling down a few rows of seats and snapping some guy’s neck, then the Yankees would like to speak with you.

It seems a drunk fan fan fell and crashed into the back of another fan, Paul Robinson, snapping Robinson’s head forward with enough force to break two vertebrae in his neck.  The intoxicated fan then tried to stand up and wound up doing a face plant onto a step.

“The guy who fell on this poor man was drunk out of his mind,” said a fan, who requested anonymity. “He was part of a group of about 12 people that came in the third inning. They drank and smoked cigarettes and talked about hot sex the entire time. It was scary to see. This poor man goes to a game thinking he’s going to have a good time and some guy who is out of control nearly kills him.”

Afterwards, the guys friends picked him and booked out of the Stadium. The Yankees, through their spokesman Howard Rubenstein, asked for anyone else who may have witnessed the event to come forward.

“We are renewing our call on fans to turn in the person who landed on top of him,” Rubenstein said. “We patrol the Stadium pretty carefully, and we’re puzzled as to what happened, so we’re looking at the tapes to determine if we got it and what happened there.”

Robinson was taken to the hospital where he underwent 2 1/2 hours of surgery to place surgical screw into his neck. Doctors who worked on Robinson said that he was lucky that he wasn’t killed or paralyzed from the injury.

“A witness said that the guy who fell was drunk out of his mind and after slamming into the back of the victim, Paul Robinson so hard he snapped his neck forward and broke his vertebrae he tried to get up and did a face plant on a step.”

Who did a face plant? Am I just reading that wrong or is something missing?

    dang, what a story.

You’re right, it was a weird run on sentence. Should be clearer now.
