aol_logo-732525.pngCasual Friday just got a whole lot scarier at AOL’s New York offices.  An anonymous tipster leaked an email sent to AOL employees in NYC.

Dear AOL colleague,

Thursday evening we were notified that a contractor who provided services at our New York offices has tested positive for an active strain of tuberculosis. This person worked in the offices at 75 Rock and the AOL offices at 1270 Avenue of the Americas, but hasn’t been in either office since mid-July.

While we don’t know which specific strain of TB this person contracted, we currently have no information to suggest that it is one of the relatively rare forms that are resistant to antibiotics.

Nevertheless, we are taking every precaution to minimize risk. Last night, we dispatched a specialized service to thoroughly clean all the common areas in both our New York offices. This afternoon, we’ll have a health care professional in the New York office (75 Rock) to answer questions. At the same time, we will be working closely with the New York Department of Health to make sure we are taking any and all additional steps needed to protect your health.

If you have any specific concerns, we suggest you consult your personal physician. You can read more about TB and its signs and symptoms here.

We will continue to provide updates as soon as we have more specific information. Your health and safety are a top priority for us.

Sincerely,

[Name redacted]

I guess we can just be happy they’re not sending out any of those old, TB laced CD-Roms anymore.
