Well it seems that a few “left-leaning” bloggers are starting to push for a labor union to organize bloggers, set an industry standard and receive health benefits.
In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.
The effort is an extension of the blogosphere’s growing power and presence, especially within the political realm, and for many, evokes memories of the early labor organization of freelance writers in the early 1980s.
Organizers hope a bloggers’ labor group will not only showcase the growing professionalism of the Web-based writers, but also the importance of their roles in candidates’ campaigns.
If this is being spearheaded by the people I imagine it is, good luck on sharing on any of the benefits. If the so-called liberal power bloggers aren’t any better about including all full-time bloggers than they are about link sharing and traffic mongering than the little guys still don’t have a chance.
Obviously I would love to see something like this work but as someone who spent a long time side by side writing in that very same genre with many of those bloggers, good luck on getting any real help from them. Say what you want about their message but at least conservative bloggers know how to network and bring people into the fold.
On the liberal side you’re either stroking off Atrios, Kos or Josh Marshall, or you’re sucking wind. Fuck them and all their holier than thou bullshit. Go BlogDC bitches!
