One of my favorite books of all time is Peter McWilliams’ Ain’t Nobody’s Business if You Do - The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in a Free Society. I think this book should be required reading for all high school students or at the very least a required college text book.
McWilliams digs in and goes through the history of criminalizing consensual crimes in a “free” society and who really gains and who really loses in the process.
A wise and frugal Government, hich shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement. -Thomas Jefferson
The book is filled with great quotes from American history and is an interesting look at the question of how free we actually are. The best part about it is that McWilliams takes the time to do the research and come up with hard data to back up his assertions.
So, if you get bored and find yourself alone with your computer or even your PDA you can go read all of Peter McWilliams’ books online for free. I’m not the biggest fan of reading books online but if they’re free I can certainly change my tune on that.
