• 08/08/07: Never Forget! It’s official, an F2 tornado touched down in Bay Ridge yesterday morning. The first twister to touch down in NYC in 118 years. The storm which dumped 3 1/2 inches of rain in just a few hours also uprooted 217 trees - 174 in Brooklyn alone - damaged 40 homes and wrecked as many as 200 cars. Oh yeah, and shut down the entire NYC subway system. [NYP]
• For the third time this year the NYC subway was crippled by terrorists rain. “We clearly need to sharpen our response,” MTA CEO Elliot Sander conceded last night. “We lost basically every single line at New York City Transit. We were not prepared,” Sander said on New York 1, before arguing that the agency “did not have notice” of the severity of the storm. Apparently they didn’t have time to turn on any of those pump rooms that they have spent $357 million to “improve” since 1992. MTA officially makes it a three way tie with ConEd and Time Warner as WORST FUCKING COMPANIES EVER! [Daily News]
• The Asians are coming! The Asians are coming! [NYT]
• E, F and R trains are still running with “extensive delays”. Is there a time when the R isn’t running with extensive delays? Worst. Train. Ever. The good news is though that according to the National Weather Service we can expect more severe weather rolling in this evening and lasting until Friday morning. Oh wait, that’s not the good news.
