It appears that “someone” has commissioned an automated phone poll to call around and test the waters of what people think about Bloomberg for President.

The automated poller asks whether or not you would support Bloomberg for President if he ran as an independent and dedicated a $1 billion of his own money towards his campaign.

“The point it kept returning to was - would I consider voting for him if he ran as an independent and pledged a billion dollars to his campaign,” said Philip Cornell, of Somerset County, N.J.

When Bloomberg staffers were asked whether or not Bloomberg was behind the polls they refused to “comment about his private schedule or personal life”.

Hillary did her part to make sure that the universe stayed balanced by doing something sort of cool, then doing something really lame. First her and Bill (who is still unbelievably cool) did a spoof of the final episode of The Sopranos which shows informed, good taste in pop culture which is always a nice added bonus in a candidate. There’s even a cameo by Johnny Sac.

She then immediately dashed any leverage she may have gained by doing the video, which is all about deciding what her campaign theme song is going to be, by announcing that her campaign theme song will in fact be Celine Dion’s “You and I”.

Maybe in a just world Johnny Sac found out she picked a fucking Celine Dion song while he was in the bathroom of the diner and comes out and whacks her. It does go to black so really we all get to write our own ending. (Dear Secret Service, that was a joke.)

A step that many believe is his first official step to throwing his hat into the 2008 Presidential mix.

Hizzoner still denies that he has any ambition for a White House run, but making moves like this isn’t helping to convince anyone. Distancing himself from the Republican Party (besides the million obvious reasons) is important for Bloomberg if he plans on running as an independent in the 2008 election. Some states make it harder for a candidate to get on the ballot as an independent if they are registered wiht a political party in their home state.

As far back as last July rumors were swirling around that Bloomberg may make a run at the White House putting up a half a billion dollars of his own money to fund his campaign.

Bloomberg is still playing coy explaining the decision by saying, “We have achieved real progress by overcoming the partisanship that too often puts narrow interests above the common good.

“As a political independent, I will continue to work with those in all political parties to find common ground, to put partisanship aside and to achieve real solutions to the challenges we face.

“Any successful elected executive knows that real results are more important than partisan battles.”

We have openly supported Bloomberg and his progressive initiatives, especially his environmental stance. I mean seriously, this dude is the billionaire Mayor of New York and at least once a week he takes the freaking subway to work. That’s commitment. Especially considering if I was a billionaire I’d be riding an elephant surrounded by juggling monkeys to work. Of course that’s probably the kind of thinking that keeps me from ever being a billionaire.

I digress, I think he would make a very interesting candidate, one that you could be sure wasn’t in some billionaires pocket.

What do you think? Would you vote for Bloomberg if he ran in ‘08?
