Much to the relief of Carroll Gardens/Red Hook residence, Kate Ascher, executive vice president of the city’s Economic Development Corp., stated that there will be no luxury condos erected on the 120 Acres from pier 7 in Columbia Heights to Pier 12.

Changes that will be made to the waterfront include breweries, a marina, a second cruise ship terminal and ferry services to Governors Island.

Additionally, Ascher assured longshoremen, union leaders and elected officials that “no existing longshore jobs will be lost,” although she conceded that new jobs generated through the project would be part time. However, concerns about the city’s plan to displace Piers 8 to 10 are still relevant

The new HNIC at ABC’s World News Tonight, Charles Gibson, seems to have about as much tact in foreign affairs as does our President. Gibson, who recently did an interview with New York magazine and was asked about whether or not he would travel as extensively has his colleague Brian Williams reportedly responded by saying,

“That’s because of Katrina; you saw him going down there. Now he’s in Africa. I don’t know why you do that. Why the hell do you go to Africa? It’s certainly an interesting choice. We’ll do travel, when it warrants.”

Of course Charlie claims that the New York Magazine reporter is a “snake” (duh he’s a reporter) but he also claims that he completely misquoted him and Gibson called into a Chicago radio station to defend himself, only to really put his foot in his mouth again.

“This guy, who I will never talk to again from New York magazine who is something of a snake, he took my quote and I think perverted the meaning of it to indicate in some way that I was insensitive to news from one of the five major continents in the world,” he said.

Ok, so there are actually 7 continents in the world and I could see how you could rightfully discount Antarctica as a “major continent” but other than that who are you leaving out of the mix? Australia? Asia? What has Australia ever done to you Charlie Gibson?
