Of these women, 4,000 die. A vaccination exists, now, that can prevent infection of the virus that is primarily responsible for this cancer.

Assemblywoman Amy Paulin plans on making huge strides for the future of woman’s reproductive health by introducing a legislation mandating girls in school to receive a series of three shots to inoculate against HPV, which is a virus that causes cervical cancer.

Some kid’s parents have religious objections to the vaccine, so they will not receive it.

“This is a revolutionary opportunity to eradicate a disease that kills many, many women. As a mom, I’m grateful my daughter will not have to fear having cervical cancer,” said Paulin. Her 18-year-old daughter has just begun her series of shots.

Governor Spitzer has earmarked $5 million dollars of his budget to buy the inoculation for women who don’t have insurance. Many doctors won’t carry the vaccine because insurers will not reimburse them for the entire cost of the product, which costs $360 per series.
