It’s almost time for the Amazing Maize Maze in Queens at the Queens County Farm Museum. The maze runs from Sept 15 - October 28 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Enjoy getting lost in our 3 acre interactive corn maze. The adventure begins with a stalk talk to prepare you for the challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles and making your way out of the maze. To add to the adventure join us for Maze By Moonlight on Saturday October 14th when the maze will be open until 9:00 p.m. Feel up to the challenge? Then join us for the fun of getting lost and loving it!
I’m all about the Maze by Moonlight thing. That sounds pretty cool.
The downside to all this? It’s sponsored by ConEd so you may want to watch out for exploding manholes and steam pipes as you make your way through the maze.

• Authorities say that they are considering charges of criminally negligent homicide against the contractors responsible for the faulty standpipe. According to the FDNY the standpipe in the basement of the Deutsche Bank building was disassembled and missing a piece when firefighters tried to pump water up to the blaze on Saturday. And a new Law & Order episode is born. [NYP]
• Danyelle Freeman is a new breed of restaurant critic. The kind of restaurant critic that’s part critic, part attention whore. [NYDN]
• “Oh, you’re in high school? What grade are you in?”
“Me? I’m an octosophreshian. I graduate this year!” New York City figures out that given enough time, virtually anyone can finish high school. [NYT]
Supposedly this is a recently released direct quote from Ronald Reagan about George W. Bush entered into his diary. The entry is dated May 17, 1986.
‘A moment I’ve been dreading. George brought his ne’re-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida. The one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I’ll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they’ll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work.’
What’s that thing Don King always says? Oh yeah. Only in America baby, only in America. We’ve been taking it up the ass for the last seven years from a ne’re-do-well loser who had to get elected president by the Jesus freaks to finally get a job.
After vehemently denying having anything to do with what went on at the house he owned where the dog fighting and brutal dog killings took place, Vick changed his tune when three co-defendants plead guilty and agreed to testify against him.
Vick is expected to enter a guilty plea next Monday and most everyone expects his deal will come with 12 - 18 months in Federal prison.
As a dog owner I’m personally sickened by these charges and feel that with Vick’s guilty plea, he should be banned from the NFL for the rest of his life. I mean if Pete Rose, who had a much longer and storied career in the MLB, can be banned for the rest of his life from the MLB, Vick should get an equal or greater punishment for taking part in such brutal acts.
From what I have heard not only was Vick present and gambling on the dog fights, according to his co-defendants he actively took part in the killing of dogs that did not perform well or that he lost money on. Then again, maybe we could just come to a compromise. He only gets a three-year suspension from the NFL but before he is allowed back he is put in a cage with two rabid pitbulls that have a taste for blood. That sounds fair.
Do you think Michael Vick should ever be allowed to play football again?
Astronauts on board the shuttle prepared to come back to Earth tomorrow, forced back early by the threat of Hurricane Dean. Using a laser-tipped boom the astronauts searched for damage on the nose and wings of the craft that may cause a problem during their fiery re-entry.
Apparently willing to tempt fate, even with a school teacher on board, NASA has decided that the huge gouge in the belly of the shuttle poses no threat.
The crew did not maneuver the 100-foot robotic arm and extension boom under the shuttle’s gouged belly Sunday. Engineers have already determined that the small but deep gouge, caused by launch debris, poses no danger.
I feel bad for whoever has the job of cleaning out those spacesuits they have to wear.
